Stuck, or found something broken? Here are the usual answers, and a real person to write to.
Common questions
How do I send a notebook to someone?
Tap the notebook in your drawer so it lifts up, then choose Pass, Lend or Give for keeps. If they're not on Bottom Drawer yet, you'll get an invite link to send any way you like: Messages, email, anything.
The notebook waits in their tray until they open it. Invite links work once, and you can take one back if nobody has opened it yet.
What's the difference between pass, lend and give?
Pass is for taking turns. They can write, then pass it back whenever they like.
Lend lets them read until a due date you choose. They can leave notes in the margin but can't write on the pages. They can return it early.
Give for keeps makes the notebook theirs forever. You lose access, and it can't be undone.
Why can't I open a notebook I sent?
Only the person holding a notebook can open it. While it's away, you'll find it under Away, with who has it and since when. You can nudge them about a passed notebook once a day.
Someone sent me a notebook and I don't want it
Open your tray and choose Decline. It goes straight back to the sender's drawer, exactly as it was.
How do I add more pages?
Tap the notebook, choose Edit, and change the page count. You can add pages at any time, and remove pages that are still blank.
I got a new phone, or Face ID won't let me in
On the sign-in screen, tap "Lost your key? Use your email instead". We'll email you a 6-digit code. Once you're in, you can set up a new passkey for Face ID.
I didn't get the sign-in email
Check your spam or junk folder, and make sure the address is spelled right. Codes expire after a few minutes, so request a new one if it's been a while. Still nothing? Email us from the address you signed up with.
Can I archive or delete a notebook?
Tap the notebook and choose Archive or Delete. Who can do this depends on how it was shared: a lent notebook can only be archived or deleted by its owner, once it's back. A passed notebook you both wrote in needs you both to agree before it's deleted. A notebook given for keeps is up to the person who received it.
Deleting is permanent for everyone.
Is Bottom Drawer for children?
No. Bottom Drawer is for people aged 13 and over. It lets people share private writing with each other, so it isn't designed for children. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we'll delete it.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings, then Delete account. Before you confirm, the app shows what will happen to each of your notebooks, so nobody loses a notebook that's also theirs. The privacy policy has the full details.
